The Art Of Prolongevity (Medical News Today)
The dream of perpetual life and eternal youth is not new. Notions of how to achieve it are roughly the same today as they were 300 years ago. But technological change has stretched the boundaries somewhat. To remain young, or at least to look young, is an ideal that is growing stronger and stronger. Aging and death must be combated; staying young and living a long life are important.

Stem Cells may no longer be a pro-life / pro-choice dilemma.
Immortality Blog By Mitch Ronco on 1/11/2007 12:24 AM

It took approximately seven years; but, researchers have shown that some cells in a mother's amniotic are full fledged stem cells.  This may well be a source of stem cells which will not require one to take sides in the heated pro-life / pro-choice debate.  Original Story

Stem Cell Research is a hot buzzing topic this week.
Immortality Blog By Mitch Ronco on 1/10/2007 11:36 PM
Many stories this week talk about the new congress and its anticipated effect on stem cell research. The numbers quoted range form 56% to 68% of U.S. citizens in favor of easing of stem cell guidelines. Stem Cells may no longer be a matter of "choice"
Immortality Blog By Mitch Ronco on 1/10/2007 11:29 PM

It took seven years; but, researches have shown that some cells found in a mother's amniotic fluid are hybrid stem cells, something between embryonic and adult stem cells.  There is great chance that these could remove stem cells from the center of the pro-life / pro-choice debate.

Large Cholestorol may help you live to old age.
Immortality Blog By Mitch Ronco on 1/6/2007 10:01 PM

The Longevity Genes Project, initiated by Nir Barzilai, director of the Institute for Aging Research at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, which investigates people who live exceptionally long lives has determined that a single gene CETP variant which determines the size of your cholestorol particles may have a very large effect on the likelihood that you will live to 100.

Apparently smaller particles of cholestorol are more likely to lodge into the walls of an atery causing cardiovascular disease through plaque formation.

Genes that help repair damage may be critical to the aging process.
Immortality Blog By Mitch Ronco on 1/5/2007 11:09 PM

New research seems to validate the idea that specific genes are responsible for aiding in the repair of cellular damage.  Mice without these genes lived very short lives even though they progressed through the same same aging processes as longer lived mice, albeit at a much faster rate.
